I was just debating if I wanted to buy a particular Kindle eBook for $9.39 (The House That Cleans Itself). Two thoughts ran through my mind as I read the first chapter for free.
- Is this book relevant to me? (I don’t own a house)
- Is this book a value? I’m not talking about the $9.39 price tag. But is it a value to my time? That’s the key. I want to know if I’m going to spend my time reading 240 pages, that I will get the value for my time. If the book was $2.99, I would be less likely to buy it, because the price would make me think that the content is not worth my time reading 240 pages.
There’s so many things to read nowadays. We have to make choices on what are the best things to spend my time with. I would say reader’s number one concern is not price, but is it worth his/her investment in time.
The quickie one-shots can get away with a lower price, because the price is not indicative of the quality. It’s cheap, because it’s short. I like short things. They don’t take much of my time investment. But with a longer eBook, I don’t want to spend my time with something that is priced cheap. It makes me feel the book is cheap. And I don’t want to spend my time with something cheap.
Just some thoughts from a consumer perspective in an eBook buying process.
